Awaken!
By: Maurice Perry
The word "awake" has been heavy in my spirit the last few days. It isn't the natural awakening, or getting up in the morning that we are traditionally accustomed to. It's not the ending of our physical hibernation and unconsciousness that I'm referring to. The "awake" that I'm referring to is synonymous with the words "watch" or "see", but again, not in the natural or physical sense. We all have two eyes and a brain that can perceive what we see in the natural. However, our two eyes and our little brain has nothing to do with "awakening", "watching" or "seeing."
"Well, what is it that I'm referring to?", you may be asking.
Spiritual awakening, watching in the spirit, seeing in the spirit, spiritual discernment - this is what I mean by "awaken."
There is a level of "seeing" or "watching" that God wants to bring us to in these last days - a level that is necessary in order to survive and conquer the devices and schemes of the enemy. There is a spiritual drunkenness that has been cast throughout the earth, and this drunkenness has also entered into our churches. The spirit of this age - unrighteousness, drunkenness, sexual immorality, murder, deceit, wickedness, pride, selfishness, covetousness and hatred for God, among many other things, has captivated the minds and hearts of so many people, and even some that are in the church. These things culminate the spirit of Babylon, or the spirit of confusion, and actually places spiritual blinders on our eyes,... not our physical eyes, but our spiritual eyes,... our discernment.
Awaken, beloved, for God wants to show us his glory!
Luke 9:29-32 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, 31 appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
God wants to show us His glory. He wants to reveal His true self to us. However, we cannot see His glory until we are FULLY AWAKE from our sleepiness.
Psalm 17:15 15 And I-in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
David sings to God that after he awakes, he will then be able to see God's face, or His true nature, which is the heart of God. And notice the latter part of the verse,... I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.... what revelation! David says that while beholding the beauty of God, he will then be satisfied. You know, we try to satisfy the lusts of the flesh with everything imaginable, but we ignore the yearning and desire of our hearts and inner man. If we take care of the desires of our hearts first, with our awakening, and then beholding the beauty and magnificence of God, then will we be fully satisfied spiritually as well as in the natural.... seek ye first the kingdom of God and all of its righteousness, and ALL things will be added to you!
Isaiah 52:1-2 1 Awake, awake, O Zion, clothe yourself with strength. Put on your garments of splendor, O Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again. 2 Shake off your dust; rise up, sit enthroned, O Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains on your neck, O captive Daughter of Zion.
Not only will awakening bring us to a place of beholding the beauty of God, but awakening also breaks the chains that bind us. Awakening destroys the yokes that have been placed around our necks by the enemy. When we finally awaken from our sleep, strongholds are shattered in an instance. When we are awake, we are strengthen by the Spirit of God and are able to defend ourselves from the enemy that tries to enter into our lives again and again.
Psalm 57:8 8 Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
There is a great urgency to awaken out of our spiritual slumber, our spiritual sleepiness. David speaks of the urgency to awaken in this verse. David says that he will awake early, meaning at the break of day, in the morning, in the beginning... in the immediate,... now! It is a decision that we have to make for ourselves. The Spirit of God is a gentleman, He will not intervene until we make the first step to awaken from our sleep. Jesus, when He was transfigured when He was talking to Moses and Elijah, didn't turn around and shake Peter, John and James to wake them up and tell them, "Hey, look at me,... behold My Glory!!" We must decide for ourselves to awaken and come out of Babylon,... God is not going to do it for us. When we finally awaken, we are to awaken like David, with the psaltery and harp - our praise and worship, beholding the beauty of God and his son, Jesus.
1 Corinthian 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
In the name of Jesus, let God arise and let His enemies be scattered. Let there be a great spiritual awakening throughout this land, as well as throughout the earth. We bind the spiritual sleepiness, sloth, laziness, complacency and reprobate mindsets in the name of Jesus. We bind the spirit of Babylon, and we cut its cords and attachments. We declare and decree spiritual quickening within the Body of Christ. We declare spiritual eyes to be open this day. Let there be a generation of your people that will arise and declare what thus saith the Lord because they can see. Father, let there be a people raised up that have the spirit of the children of Issachar in 1 Chronicles 12:32, a people that have awakened, and have understanding of the times and seasons,... let this generation's voice arise from the wilderness and proclaim the Word of the Lord! Father, we declare and decree your children be cut off from the spirit of sleepiness, and awaken to a new day, and a new job title in your kingdom,... let your children become watchmen on the walls, oh God!! Let your children sound the alarm with their personal shofars and trumpets!! Let the voices of your children reverberate across the waters and desert plains and penetrate the kingdom of darkness!! We bash the kingdom of darkness with our voices, with our shouts, with our praise and worship unto you, oh God, most High!! We declare your kingdom be established in the earth right now... in Jesus name, Amen!
