The Lighthouse

By: Joyce C. Lock

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.

He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise? Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine? By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun. Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.

Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat. In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness. Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.

O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord. To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people. Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward. And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday.

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers.

I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee. And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.

The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
