Botswana
For more information see the Botswana profile.
The Republic of Botswana, is located within the heart of southern Africa, with desert in the Southwest, plains in the east, and fertile lands and swamp in the North.
Independent from Britain since 1966, Botswana has a stable, multi-party democracy, a rarity in Africa.
The largest Bantu peoples group, the Tswana were the first in Africa to respond to the gospel. Today the majority of Tswana are Christian in name but given over to immorality and drunkenness accentuated by the breakdown of family life.
The growth of African indigenous churches has been dramatic. Many mixing Christian truths with traditional religions. Young people under 21 make up half the population, but relatively few are churchgoers.
