Equatorial Guinea
For more information see the Equatorial Guinea profile.
The Republic of Equatorial Guinea, is a small enclave on the African west coast; and includes several islands in the Gulf of Guinea (and the island of Bioko off the coast of Cameroon).
Equatorial Guinea became independent from Spain in 1968. A coup in 1969 put an atheist dictator in control, turning the country into a slave labor camp with Soviet bloc assistance. A military coup in 1979 led to the present one-party presidential government.
Almost the whole population is nominally Catholic, but large parts of the country have no evangelical witness. The ethnic minorities such as the Ngumba, Yaka, Puku and Benga have no known congregations of evangelical believers.
