The Gabonese Republic, is located on the west coast of Africa. Virtually the whole country is a tropical rainforest. Though a multi-party democracy since 1991, Gabon maintains close economical and political links with France. The Catholic Church is no longer dominate, with many government officials converting to Islam, and the pervasive influence of freemasonry and indigenous secret societies.

Influx in recent years of Hausa, Fulani and other West African Muslim immigrants and the conversion of the Gabonese men, has led to an increase and strengthening of Islam. There are no evangelical congregations in 38 of the 68 ethnic groups, and 25 are marginally reached.
