The Unreached Peoples Prayer Profiles
Moldova
For more information see the Moldova profile.
Moldova, formerly part of Romania, and then the Soviet Union, is sandwiched
between Romania and Ukraine. Moldova is landlocked, and the smallest and
most densely populated of the former Soviet republics. After becoming
independent in 1990, Moldova's desire to reunify with Romania and
discrimination against Slavs provoked six months of bitter war in 1992. An
uneasy Russian army-controlled peace prevails, but no political
solution is in sight. Severe persecution under Communism and the
renewed political influence of the Orthodox Church makes it difficult
for evangelicals to receive equal treatment. Their numbers are growing
rapidly, but they face many difficulties.
