Namibia
For more information see the Namibia profile.
Namibia is located on the Atlantic coast of southern Africa, above the northern
border of the Republic of South Africa. Most of the land is desert, thus the
majority of the people live in the few well watered regions and on a central
plateau. Mining is the major source of income, but agriculture and fishing
are important as well. Namibia was ruled by South Africa until 1990 when
it won independence after a long guerilla war and lengthy negotiations. The
nation has a democratic government and a free market economy. Namibia has
total religious freedom. With 91% of the population professing Christianity,
Namibia has the largest percentage of Christians of any African nation.
