Niger
For more information see the Niger profile.
The Republic of Niger is a landlocked country in west Africa. The
Sahara desert covers most of the country, with only a small area
of savannah grasslands. Mining had brought some economic development
to this impoverished land, but famine, the collapse of the uranium market,
and Nigeria's closing of their common border devastated the economy.
After becoming independent from France in 1960, Niger was ruled by two
successive military regimes. Niger now has a multi-party government.
The nation has religious freedom, but with strong Islamic tendencies.
This Muslim land is open for the gospel, but there are too few missionaries
to cover all the opportunities.
