Rwanda
For more information see the Rwanda profile.
Rwanda is a landlocked, mountainous country in
central Africa. It is an agricultural land growing much coffee and tea, but
besides the rich soil there are few natural resources. The nation has
historically been a feudal monarchy, with the minority Tutsi governing
the majority Hutu. Ethnic tention between the two groups escalated into a
bloody civil war in 1994, with up to 700,000 dead in a matter of months.
Despite the restoration of a degree of peace, the situation remains uneasy
at best, and the plight of thousands of refugees in surrounding countries
has yet to be resolved. There is religious freedom. Many
Christians have suffered much in the conflict. Because of
their ethnic origin, some have lost family members, homes and possessions.
The ethnic warfare and the chaos have driven many to seek after God.
