Serbia and Montenegro
For more information see the Serbia and Montenegro profile.
Yugoslavia is a nation located on the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern
Europe. Once made up of six ethnically distinct republics, since 1991
Yugloslavia has consisted of only Serbia and Montenegro. It has since
become embroiled in bitter ethnic warfare in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina,
both former Yugoslav republics. The economy is in a state
of ruin as a result of inflation, trade sanctions, and costs of war.
This has provoked violent anti-government demonstrations and calls for
the resignation of the president.
The status of religious freedom is somewhat uncertain, as the Serbian Orthodox Church seeks to regain political influence. Evangelicals make up but a tiny segment of the population.
