Zambia
For more information see the Zambia profile.
Zambia is a landlocked nation in southern Africa. Most of the country is
situated on a forested 4,000 foot plateau. Copper mining dominates the
economy, and copper accounts for 80% of exports. Farming is made difficult
by poor soil, though corn is an important crop. Zambia became independent
from Great Britain in 1964. The government was a one party democracy until
1991, when multi-party elections were held. The Christian president of
Zambia has declared that Zambia is a Christian country but guarantees
religious freedom. Though evangelicals are experiencing rapid growth, cults
are also attracting vast followings.
