The Unreached Peoples Prayer Profiles
Tanzania
For more information see the Tanzania profile.
Tanzania is located in East Africa, on the coast of the
Indian Ocean. It consists mainland Tanganyika and the island of Zanzibar.
The highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, is located in Tanzania.
Inefficiency and corruption have led to a decline of industry and
agriculture, as well as a major reduction of living standards. After
independence as separate nations, Tanganyika
and Zanzibar united as a one-party socialist republic in 1964.
Zanzibar is pressuring the government for more autonomy or
even full independence.
Tanzania has religious freedom for worship and witness, but Muslims are
favored by the government. The nation has, however, been responsive to the
Gospel.
